Drake's Legal Battle with UMG Intensifies Amid Kendrick Lamar Diss Track Controversy

 

Drake's ongoing legal dispute with Universal Music Group (UMG) has escalated as he seeks access to Kendrick Lamar's record contract, prompting UMG to request a federal judge to halt all discovery. This conflict originates from Kendrick Lamar's diss track "Not Like Us," which contains serious allegations against Drake. Drake alleges that UMG promoted the track using unethical methods, including manipulating streaming numbers and engaging in payola, to damage his reputation and gain leverage in contract negotiations.

In response, UMG has filed a motion to dismiss Drake's lawsuit, arguing that diss tracks are a traditional aspect of rap battles and that Drake willingly participated in this exchange. They contend that the lawsuit is an attempt to recover from a rap battle loss.

Drake's legal team counters that UMG's actions have endangered and exploited artists, leading to real-world harm, including a shooting incident at Drake's Toronto home and safety concerns for his family.

As the legal proceedings continue, a pre-trial hearing is scheduled for April 2, where the court will address these contentious issues.
